[1:14]  ² tn Or “because of.”

[1:14]  ³ tn “At his birth” is more precise as the grammatical subject (1:58), though “at his coming” is a possible force, since it is his mission, as the following verses note, that will really bring joy.

[1:45]  ⁴ sn Again the note of being blessed makes the key point of the passage about believing God.

[1:45]  ⁵ tn This ὅτι (Joti) clause, technically indirect discourse after πιστεύω (pisteuw), explains the content of the faith, a belief in God’s promise coming to pass.

[1:45]  ⁶ tn That is, “what was said to her (by the angel) at the Lord’s command” (BDAG 756 s.v. παρά A.2).

[1:45]  ⁷ tn Grk “that there would be a fulfillment of what was said to her from the Lord.”

[1:45]  sn This term speaks of completion of something planned (2 Chr 29:35).

[4:7]  ⁸ tn This is a third class condition: “If you worship me (and I am not saying whether you will or will not)…”

[4:7]  ⁹ tn Or “will prostrate yourself in worship before…” The verb προσκυνέω (proskunew) can allude not only to the act of worship but the position of the worshiper. See L&N 53.56.

[4:7]  ¹⁰ tn One could translate this phrase “it will all be yours.” The sense is the same, but the translation given is a touch more emphatic and more likely to catch the force of the offer.

[12:34]  ¹¹ sn Seeking heavenly treasure means serving others and honoring God by doing so; see Luke 6:35-36.

[12:55]  ¹² sn The south wind comes from the desert, and thus brings scorching heat.
